Murang’a Assembly Adopts Recommendations from Singapore Visit for Economic Growth
The Murang’a County Assembly has adopted a report containing recommendations from a delegation of assembly members who recently visited Singapore for a leadership training program. The delegates aimed to learn best practices in stimulating unique and innovative thought processes to improve the county's economy and development status.
The report, presented by MCA for Ichagaki, Hilary Muchoki, highlights the significant economic growth of Singapore attributed to transformational leadership and lack of corruption. Despite Kenya having a higher GDP at independence, Singapore's GDP has now surpassed Kenya's by approximately six times.
The report attributes Singapore's economic transformation to effective leadership, proper urban planning, and housing, political stability, adaptation to global challenges, multiculturalism, and social cohesion.
MCA for Ithanga ward, Alex Ndunda, emphasized the importance of utilizing the knowledge gained from such visits for the county's benefit. He believes that learning from best practices and implementing policies can help the county transition from a devolving to a developed region.
MCA for Kahumbu, Chefman Njoroge, supported the motion and challenged the county government to implement the recommendations from the report to ensure the county's growth and development.
The report recommends instilling a culture of anti-corruption, adopting a flexible water management system to address climate change challenges, and focusing on comprehensive and integrated management for development programs. Additionally, the county government is advised to keep public service jobs economically competitive to reduce corruption and embrace visionary leadership for a decent and quality life for the public, as enshrined in the constitution.
