PWDs ,YOUTH ,CALL FOR TRANSPARENCY AND PEACE DURING DEMONSTRATIONS

Youth and representatives of Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) convened in Makueni County to discuss pressing challenges facing their communities, particularly the growing disconnect between young people and national leadership.
The forum focused on the need for integrity and accountability in governance, with participants voicing frustration over a lack of transparency in public affairs. Activist Daniel Mutunga strongly criticized the state of leadership in the country.
“There is no accountability in the government, and the same applies to the development agenda. A lot of things are happening. There is no transparency in terms of what is going on in the country,” said Mutunga.
The safety of Persons with disabilities during protests was also a major concern. Eunice Thanze, a representative for PWDs, said recent demonstrations was characterised with violence, placing vulnerable individuals at serious risk.
“The demonstrations are not peaceful at all, and we have seen that. When it comes time for people to run for their lives, a person with disabilities cannot run or escape. They face many problems, and it has been very painful for many of them,” said Thanze.
The forum called the government and stakeholders to promote transparency, peace, and inclusion, especially during periods of political unrest.
