Our story
Signs Media Kenya Limited, the company behind Signs TV, was established in 2011 with a social enterprise model aimed at educating, informing, and entertaining through sign language. Our mission is to enhance disability awareness and promote Deaf Culture.
In 2015, Signs Media Kenya Limited applied for and received approval from the Communication Authority of Kenya to operate a television station broadcasting in sign language. Since February 2017, Signs TV has been available on a free-to-air platform, offering affordable publicity options, including advertisements, documentaries, and general partnerships for various organizations.
Our Mission
Signs TV provides comprehensive coverage of elections, sports, entertainment, and more, all while advocating for disability awareness, inclusive narratives, adaptive technology, and equality. We aim to navigate the world's stories with empathy, integrity, and inclusivity.
Achievements:
- COMMUNICATION AUTHORITY OF KENYA KUZA Awards (2018 & 2019): First runners up for programming focused on Persons with Disabilities, demonstrating our widespread impact.
- 2018 SDG Ambassadors Award: Winner, an initiative by UNDP, British Council, and ActionAid.
- DIAR Awards 2019: Winner of the Disability Inclusion-Corporate Champion.
- UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network: Featured among the top 50 solutions in the 2019 Youth Solutions Report, presented at the 74th United Nations General Assembly High-Level Side Event on Social Business, Youth, and Technology.
- Youth Connekt Africa 2019: Awarded in Kigali, Rwanda.
- Zero Conference 2020: Recognized in Vienna, Austria, for tools supporting communication.
