Uwezo Fund To Benefit 89 Self-Help Groups, Including Persons with Disabilities

Makueni County is set to benefit from Sh4.45 million under the Uwezo Fund Programme. The funds will be used to support 89 self-help groups in the county, including persons with disabilities, women, and youth.

In a news report by Kenya News Agency, each group will receive Sh50,000 to initiate projects to combat poverty. The cheques will be issued on August 11, 2023, at Wote PWD Centre, Kathozweni DCC Board room, and African Inland Church (AIC) ground Matiliku town in Makueni, Kathozweni, and Nzaui sub-counties respectively.

The Makueni Sub County Youth Development Officer, Gideon Masaku Kwake, said that the groups to benefit are involved in income-generating projects like table banking, poultry keeping, and tree nursery. The funds will help them to earn an income to assist them to educate their children and improve their living standards.

Kwake warned the groups to spend the money on projects meant for and that the government would take stern action against any mismanagement of the funds.

He also urged the groups to make good use of the funds and to ensure that they are sustainable. He said that the government is committed to supporting self-help groups in the county and that it will continue to provide them with the necessary resources to succeed.

The Uwezo Fund Programme is a government initiative that aims to empower youth, women, and persons with disabilities through financial assistance. The program has been very successful in Makueni County and has helped to improve the lives of many people.
