The government has stopped the creation of new administration posts in the Eastern and North-Eastern Regions and land adjudication along the boundaries.
The ban was announced on Tuesday by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i during a meeting with the security team at a hotel in Isiolo county.
The units which include sub-locations, locations, divisions, and sub-counties, are to be used for service delivery in the regions.
The CS speaking during the meeting said the ban will allow adequate public participation and prevent further fueling of the conflicts in the area.
Mating’i said the boundary issue has been politicized which he termed an issue of concern and needs to be addressed.
Counties in the regions have been experiencing cross-border conflicts that have hindered their access to resources.
The CS further noted that the move will help insulate the process from political manipulation and incitement around the location of boundaries and access to land, water, pasture, and other resources.
