President Kenyatta on Sunday officially launched the Nairobi Expressway.

The project which began in October 2019 and has taken approximately 18 months to be completed is now available for use by the public.

Speaking during the launch, President Kenyatta lauded the stakeholders who have been at the forefront to ensure the project is completed within the allocated time.

Initially, the government anticipated completing the project in 36 months but to their surprise, it has only taken 18 months.

President Kenyatta further expressed his gratitude to Kenyans who suffered the inconveniences during the construction of the road.

According to the president, users of the expressway during the trial period from May to July 30th exceeded the expected number an indication that it will open up opportunities for Kenyans.

He also added that the road will reduce travel time, increase mobility and reduce congestion in the busy city.

At the same time, President Kenyatta commissioned the Nairobi Eastern Bypass which had been revamped from a single 2-lane road to a dual 4-lane.

The road onnects Mombasa Road to Thika Super Highway at Kamakis, traversing through Embakasi, Utawala, Ruai and Ruiru towns.

Nairobi Eastern Bypass will play a major role in directing traffic away from Nairobi’s Central Business District, reducing travel times in and around the city.
