Police Officers Interdicted Over Death Of Albert Omondi Ojwang In Custody

The National Police Service (NPS) has interdicted several officers following the death of Albert Omondi Ojwang while in custody at Central Police Station in Nairobi. The incident, which has drawn public concern, occurred during the night while Ojwang was being held by police.
Among those interdicted are the officer commanding station (OCS), the duty officer on the night in question, the cell sentry, and all officers stationed at the report office that night.
"Any other officer found to have been on duty or otherwise involved during the incident" will also face disciplinary action.
In a press statement released on June 9, NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga stated that the Inspector General has taken this action.
"To ensure a thorough, impartial, and expeditious investigation by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).”
The interdictions take effect immediately as investigations continue. The NPS has pledged to keep the public informed as new developments emerge in the case.
