Bungoma PWDs Receive Wheelchairs
The Bungoma County Government and the Walk About Foundation have partnered to provide wheelchairs to persons with disabilities in the county.
The partnership provided 120 wheelchairs fitted with modern features to ease movement for the beneficiaries.
Speaking during the launch of the new phase of wheelchair distribution, Governor Ken Lusaka praised the Walkabout Foundation for its ongoing support in improving the lives of persons with disabilities (PWDs).
"We're putting our money where our mouth is on empowering PWDs," Lusaka said, "and I want to thank our valued partners, the Walkabout Foundation, for their tremendous cooperation."
Governor Lusaka further recognized the PWD community's important contributions to society. "Disability doesn't mean inability," he declared. "People with disabilities play a significant role in our county, and we should welcome their participation."
The governor urged the County Assembly to prioritize creating policies and regulations that manage the Disability Fund.
The partnership is part of the county government's efforts to improve the lives of people with disabilities.
Walkabout Foundation Director, Caro Mureithi, expressed dismay at discovering some previous wheelchair recipients had sold them for meager prices.
She sternly stated that encountering such individuals on the streets of Bungoma could result in them losing their wheelchairs.
