Kajiado County Steps Up Support For Persons With Disability

The Kajiado County Assembly, in partnership with the Departments of Social Services and Health, has launched a five-day Free Mobile Clinic at PCEA Church–Kajiado, distributing assistive mobility devices to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) from rural areas.
In a public statement shared via official county channels, the Kajiado County Assembly wrote that the partnership is a reflection of unwavering commitment to disability inclusion and empowerment.
The initiative was officially flagged off today by Deputy Governor H.E. Martin Moshisho, alongside Hon. Betty Taany, Chairperson of the Disability and Mainstreaming Committee. The County Assembly hailed Hon. Taany for her leadership in advocating for disability inclusion.
“The number of PWDs in rural areas is alarming, and last year’s success, where 220 mobility devices were distributed in urban areas, inspired us to seek broader support.” Said Hon. Taany in a statement shared online by the County Assembly of Kajiado.
The project is supported by the US-based Joni & Friends Foundation, which has dispatched a team of six professors and 20 physiotherapy interns from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. The team is assessing and fitting clients on-site with customized mobility chairs.
Rev. Dr. Jesse Kamau, who officially opened the event, urged greater involvement from both government and private actors.
“This is the true biblical worship—supporting those in need,” he said.
Fifty residents from Kajiado South and Matapato received mobility chairs on the first day, with 250 devices set to be distributed by the end of the week.
