The Association of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Baringo County has welcomed the nomination of Hon. Harold Kimuge Kipchumba to the National Assembly by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party, hailing it as a major milestone in the inclusion of PWDs in national leadership.
Kipchumba, who was nominated to replace Hon. John Mbadi following his appointment as Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury, was officially confirmed in a Gazette Notice by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In a statement read by Baringo PWDs representative Paul Keitany, the group strongly defended Kipchumba’s nomination and dismissed a petition filed seeking to challenge the appointment.
“Kipchumba was fourth on the ODM party list submitted to IEBC, while Ketorra was a distant eighth. This challenge is unfair and a betrayal of the PWDs,” part of the statement read.
The association described Kipchumba as a committed advocate for disability rights and a symbol of progress for persons with disabilities across Kenya. His nomination, they said, signals a growing shift towards inclusive governance.
The group also threw its support behind the newly reconstituted IEBC and its Chairperson, Mr. Ethekon, terming claims of bias and manipulation as baseless and politically motivated.
Kipchumba’s ascension to Parliament is seen as a victory for disability representation, adding to the growing number of PWDs holding leadership roles across the country.
