Senate to Hear Isiolo Governor Guyo's Impeachment in Full Plenary

Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo is now set to appear before the Senate plenary on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
This comes after the Senate rejected a request by the House Business Committee (HBC) to appoint an 11-member special committee to investigate the governor's case.
The HBC, chaired by Speaker Amason Kingi, had suggested that a select panel address the impeachment process. However, a notice of motion proposed by Majority Whip Bonny Khalwale to establish the committee failed to get a seconder as required by Senate Standing Orders, resulting in its dissolution.
This implies Governor Guyo will now defend himself in front of all senators.
Guyo was impeached by the Isiolo County Assembly on Friday, June 28, with 16 out of 18 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) voting in favor of the motion made by Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana.
The motion listed several purported leadership inadequacies. These include the halting of significant development projects, the consistent inability to meet income projections, and the formation of an overburdened executive. The County Assembly emphasized the appointment of 36 advisors and 31 chief officials, despite Isiolo County getting the third-lowest revenue allocation nationally.
Furthermore, the ousted governor was accused of awarding short-term, two-year contracts to chief officials. The County Assembly claimed that this move generated an "environment of fear and uncertainty" in the county administration.
