Niger Coup Leaders Accuse French Forces Of Destabilising The Country
The leaders of the coup in Niger have accused French forces of destabilizing the country. In a statement released on Wednesday, the coup leaders said that France has been supporting "terrorist groups" in Niger and has contributed to the instability in the country.
The coup leaders also accused France of interfering in Niger's internal affairs. They said that France has been supporting President Mohamed Bazoum's government, which they overthrew in the coup.
The French government has denied the coup leaders' accusations. The French foreign ministry said in a statement that France is "committed to the stability and security of Niger" and that it is "not supporting any terrorist groups."
According to Aljazeera, Soldiers from the country’s presidential guard seized power. They detained President Mohammad Bazoum on July 26, triggering international condemnation and the threat of a military incursion by neighboring West African nations.
The coup in Niger is the latest in a series of coups in West Africa. In May, there was a coup in Mali, and in September, there was a coup in Guinea.
The coup leaders in Niger have said that they want to "restore democracy" to the country.
