UDPK Decries Daily Struggles, Demands Legal Protection For PWDs

The United Disabled Persons of Kenya organization has expressed serious concern about the struggles its members experience on a daily basis, especially while trying to make a living.
At a recent event where individuals shared their experiences navigating the country's banking sector, a recurring theme emerged: systemic discrimination and lack of accessibility.
Participants detailed the necessity of bringing sign language interpreters to banks due to the absence of accessible communication options. They also reported instances of disrespectful treatment from bank staff, highlighting a broader issue of societal disregard.
In response, the UDPK is calling on the government to enact comprehensive legislation that guarantees equal treatment and accessibility for people with disabilities in all public and private spaces.
The union emphasizes the urgent need for legal frameworks that enforce inclusivity and eliminate the barriers that currently impede the daily lives of persons with disabilities.
