Residents of West Pokot are urging the government to enhance school infrastructure within the region, aiming to provide a more conducive learning environment for children.

During a stakeholders’ forum concerning the medium-term budget for the 2024/25 to 2026/27 financial years, participants emphasized the importance of strengthening schools through infrastructure development, asserting that it would have a significant impact on addressing the challenges faced by the county.

They pointed out that the county’s security issues may be linked to high levels of illiteracy, emphasizing that prioritizing education is key to empowering children and reducing incidents of banditry.

The Participants also highlighted the positive impact of establishing peace schools in conflict-prone border areas and called for more such initiatives.

Additionally, they believed that the region’s security concerns may be exaggerated, and further suggested that the national government should allocate more budget to peace-building efforts with a focus on involving local elders.
