Govt Launches Nationwide LPG, Petroleum Business Registration Exercise
The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration in collaboration with the State Department for Petroleum has launched a nationwide Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Petroleum Business Registration Exercise.
The exercise which will be conducted in all Sub counties by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority and National Government Administrative Officers will begin on Tuesday, 3rd April 2023 and run through to Friday, 14th April 2023.
According to a press release by the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, the registration drive aims at enhance the management and regulation of LPG and Petroleum business in the country and will involve collection of data and information from all LPG and Petroleum businesses.
"The exercise will help to ensure that all LPG and Petroleum operators are compliant with safety regulations thereby minimizing the risks of accidents and protecting the public," read the press statement.
All the LPG and petroleum dealers and traders are encouraged to participate in the registration exercise as the government remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and the effective regulation of the petroleum sector.
The government has warned that all the unregistered LPG and Petroleum businesses will be deemed to be nonoperational once the registration period elapses.
During the launch of the Taifa Gas special economic zone limited in Mombasa on February 23rd, President William Ruto said that the government is keen on increasing per capita consumption of LPG at the household level.
In a bid to ease the burden of the high cost of living for Kenyans, the President announced that the government will drop all taxes on cooking gas even as the country seeks to embrace environment-friendly alternatives.
