Bayern Talks for Nkunku Could Unlock Chelsea’s Move for Xavi Simons

Bayern Munich have opened active negotiations with Chelsea over the transfer of Christopher Nkunku, in a deal that could have a major knock-on effect on the Premier League club’s summer plans.

Nkunku, who joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in 2023, is understood to be keen on the move to Germany, while the Bundesliga champions have made the forward one of their top attacking targets following Kingsley Coman’s departure.

Chelsea are insisting on a permanent transfer for the 26-year-old, with their asking price reportedly reduced from £60 million to around £30–40 million. Bayern, however, are exploring various deal structures, including a potential loan with an option to buy. RB Leipzig and Inter Milan are also monitoring the situation, but Bayern are currently leading the race.

The Frenchman’s exit is viewed by Chelsea as a crucial step towards funding moves for RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons and Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho. Chelsea have had personal terms agreed with Simons since July, but have been unable to finalise a deal due to financial constraints.

A possible swap deal involving Nkunku returning to Leipzig as part of the Simons agreement has been discussed, although the German club is believed to favour a loan arrangement rather than a permanent transfer.

For now, talks between Chelsea and Bayern remain ongoing, with no agreement yet reached. However, the outcome of the Nkunku negotiations is likely to determine whether Chelsea can push through their pursuit of Simons before the transfer window closes.
