President William Ruto has hit back at opposition leaders who are pushing for him to be a one-term president, stating that his administration will not be swayed by "blackmail and threats."
Speaking at State House Nairobi during the launch of the Nairobi County Empowerment Program, the President declared his administration is "resolute and focused on delivering transformative change across the country."
The President's comments were a direct response to a recent wave of criticism and calls from various opposition figures, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other leaders, who have campaigned for a "one-term" presidency.
Meanwhile, the Nairobi County Empowerment Programme brought together approximately 15,000 Nairobi residents from 1,100 community groups at State House.
President Ruto provided motorcycles, tents, PA systems, water tanks, washing machines, catering equipment, and printing machines to support small and informal companies.
The President announced that the government, in partnership with the World Bank, will provide KSh50,000 to 70 young people in each of Kenya's 1,450 wards. The overall number of beneficiaries will be 100,000.
"We are empowering 70 youths from each ward so that they can start small businesses in our effort to make them economically independent," according to the president.
