Egypt’s AFCON dream was shattered in a dramatic penalty shootout after they were stunned by DR Congo 8-7 following a 1-1 draw in San Pedro.

Despite missing star man Mohamed Salah, Egypt looked poised for victory after Mostafa Mohamed’s late equalizer from the penalty spot canceled Meschack Elia’s first-half opener.

However, DR Congo took hold in the shootout, and Egypt’s dream was dashed one missed penalty at a time.

In other thrilling encounters, Angola emerged victorious despite both teams receiving red cards, while Guinea narrowly edged out Equatorial Guinea who were reduced to ten men.

So far, Angola, Nigeria, Guinea, and DR Congo have secured their spots in the quarterfinals.

Today’s action promises more excitement as Cape Verde faces Mauritania in a crucial clash for a place in the next round. Meanwhile, Senegal and Ivory Coast, two giants of African football, lock horns in a highly anticipated encounter.
