Catholic Diocese of the Murang’a Aims to Plant 600,000 Trees
The Catholic Diocese of Murang'a is on a mission to plant and nurture 600,000 trees in commemoration of Diocesan Environment Month, which was inaugurated last Saturday.
During the Annual Presbyterian Assembly (APA) in Murang'a, Bishop James Maria Wainaina stressed the urgent need for heightened environmental awareness, citing the recent erratic climatic conditions
Bishop Wainaina emphasized the indispensable role of trees on our planet, contributing to climate change mitigation by improving air quality, regulating heavy rainfall to prevent flooding, mitigating excessive heat, and removing carbon from the atmosphere.
"We all have a part to play in fostering a peaceful, healthy, and eco-friendly environment. Therefore, I urge everyone to plant and nurture a tree to safeguard our planet," he urged.
As part of Diocesan Environment Month, the Bishop disclosed plans to plant 600,000 trees across all churches, a coordinated effort led by the Local deanery in the 54 parishes spanning Kirinyaga and Murang'a counties.
Furthermore, the Bishop called upon environmental stakeholders both in Kenya and globally to innovate modern strategies for environmental conservation to combat ongoing environmental degradation.
