Cs Ruku Issues Flood Warning To Residents In High-Risk Areas

Public Service and Special Programs Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has issued a warning to Kenyans in flood-prone zones. The CS urged inhabitants in high-risk areas to take cautious steps, as heavy rains are predicted to continue across the country.
The warning comes as the Kenya Meteorological Department forecasts a continued period of intense rainfall, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides in various parts of the country. CS Ruku urged residents to heed all warnings from government agencies and local authorities.
The government is said to be on high alert, with emergency response teams deployed to assist in potential rescue and evacuation operations. The CS emphasized the importance of relocating to safer grounds and avoiding crossing swollen rivers or flooded roads.
Speaking at St. Andrew’s AIPCA Church, Mailune in Igembe North, Meru County, Ruku said his ministry is working closely with disaster response agencies, including the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA), the Kenya Red Cross, the National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU), and the National Youth Service under the State Department for Special Programmes.
Ruku reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring no Kenyan is left vulnerable, noting that the State Department for Special Programmes is developing strategies to cushion communities from the anticipated impacts of the rains.
