Vulnerable Citizens Respond To The Call for Registrations

The launch of the government's Inua Jamii Safety Net program at Kerugoya Stadium in Kirinyaga Central attracted over 300 participants from various categories. This included existing program beneficiaries and new members who will soon receive government funds to support and honor citizens, especially senior citizens.

The registration process, which will continue until September 15th, aims to include more elderly individuals aged 70 and above, orphans, and individuals living with severe disabilities.

Kirinyaga County Commissioner Nayioma Tobiko, who oversaw the program's launch, highlighted the significant improvements in the lives of elderly and vulnerable community members since the government initiated this process. He assured beneficiaries that there would be no delays in the disbursement of funds, as had been experienced in the past.

Tobiko encouraged those willing to register to provide accurate information and follow the necessary procedures. He emphasized that his team would monitor progress throughout the county and urged all eligible residents to take advantage of this registration opportunity.

Zipporah Miringu from the National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) explained that the program is focused on individuals with severe disabilities, especially those who require constant assistance and are unable to perform daily tasks independently. She noted that while many are already affiliated with NCPWD, not all may meet the criteria.

The county Children's Officer, Kamwila Ngege, mentioned that they are registering households that care for orphans who are permanent members of the household. They also consider cases where caregivers are chronically ill and can no longer provide for the basic needs of the children.

The children's department aims to register 3,011 orphans in Kirinyaga County, with Mwea sub-county registering 897, Gichugu 712, Ndia 682, and Kirinyaga Central 720.
