Shakahola Death Toll At 211

The exhumation of bodies from the Shakahola forest by the multi-agency team continues with the death toll now at 211.

According to the Coast region Coordinator, Rhoda Onyancha 10 more bodies were exhumed on Tuesday.

Further, Onyancha revealed that three male adults were rescued while in critical condition and now receiving treatment at Malindi Sub-County Hospital.

The number of those rescued from the thickets of Shakahola forest now stands at 84.

Three more people suspected to have been aiding controversial preacher Paul Mackenzie were also arrested which brings the number of the accused to 31.

DNA samples were taken from 93 bodies while 14 people were reunited with their families. 620 people have been reported missing.

According to the multi-agency team spearheading the exercise, more bodies are still buried in the shallow graves of the forest.

Earlier, an autopsy report by the government chief pathologist Johansen Odour revealed that some of the victims of the cult were killed through suffocation and strangulation.

The controversial Pastor is in police custody as investigations into his cult are still ongoing.

Mackenzie is facing serious crimes of murder, counseling and aiding persons to kill themselves, aiding suicide, abduction, radicalization, genocide, crimes against humanity, child cruelty, fraud, and money laundering.
