Kenya Power Prioritizes Inclusion, Awards Ksh. 4.15 Billion in Tenders to Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities
Businesses owned by persons with disabilities (PWDs) were among the beneficiaries of the Ksh. 4.15 billion in tenders awarded by Kenya Power and Lighting (KPLC) during the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
According to the KPLC, this achievement far exceeds the company's Ksh. 1.2 billion targets under the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) initiative for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024.
This marks a substantial rise from the Ksh. 472 million awarded to these groups, which also includes youth, and women in the 2022-2023 fiscal year, highlighting Kenya Power’s commitment to inclusivity.
According to Kenya Power's General Manager for Supply Chain and Logistics, John Ngeno, the increasing uptake of AGPO is a direct outcome of focused instructional initiatives for these groups.
AGPO tenders are given out by Kenya Power for "not highly technical" services and supplies, such as locally accessible materials, common user products, construction and maintenance, and cleaning services.
