Mothers’ Day is a special day that honors motherhood that is observed annually in different forms throughout the world. This year, mother’s day will occur on Sunday, May 14th. While dates and celebrations may vary, Mother’s Day involves presenting mothers with flowers, cards and gifts.

Mother’s Day dates back to the ancient Greeks and Romans who held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele, but they called the early festival, “Mothering Sunday.”

In America, the first idea of mother’s day was when a woman called Anna Jarvis held a memorial service for her own mother on 12th May 1907. Later on, many people in America began observing the day in 1914, and the US president made it a national holiday, that is always celebrated on the second Sunday of May.

This year, mother’s day theme will be to ‘acknowledge the idea of motherhood’. The focus will be to celebrate motherhood and to honor the selfless love of mother’s globally. Mothers’ day is a unique and friendly way to remember the spirit of motherhood and to acknowledge every motherly figure in our lives.

Mothers’ Day is an exciting opportunity for people to tell their mothers how they are loved and appreciated. Some of the ways to show love and appreciation could be to buy gifts for mothers or doing something simple for them.  One could also express affection for them through gifts or participation in chores.
