Schools across the country reopened today, marking the end of a three-week April holiday.

The second term is scheduled to span a total of 14 weeks and will include a mid-term break from Tuesday, June 25th, to Saturday, June 29th.

Following the second term, the third and final term of the academic year will begin on Monday, August 25th, and will run for nine weeks, concluding on Friday, October 24th.

The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) examinations are set to begin on Monday, October 27th and will conclude on Thursday, October 30th.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations are scheduled to commence on Monday, November 3rd, and will end on Friday, November 21st.

Meanwhile, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has urged the Ministry of Education to release capitation to schools sooner to ensure smooth operations.

Speaking on Sunday, April 27, the union's Secretary General, Hesbon Otieno, claimed that this will help with the planned transition in the second term.
According to the SG, the second term is when Grade 9 students will choose their senior high school pathways; therefore, efficient funding is essential for a smooth transition.
