A Mombasa School For the Deaf Struggle With CBC Implementation

The Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) has posed significant challenges for teachers in Deaf schools and students with multiple disabilities.
Teachers at Mombasa's Ziwani School for the Deaf have exposed systemic problems in the curriculum's implementation by expressing challenges in delivering high-quality instruction to students, many of whom have complex needs.
With only nine months remaining before these students’ transition to senior school, a primary concern is the lack of resources and tailored support to help them choose appropriate career pathways.
The teachers say they are struggling to adequately prepare students for the practical, competency-based assessments required by the CBC, particularly those with multiple disabilities who require specialized attention.
While students must select their professional choices when they move to senior high school, teachers believe this is challenging for the students since they have trouble making decisions.
According to educators, the learners require additional exposure to job pathways.
