International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression is a United Nations observance held on June 4 every year. It was established on 19 August 1982.

United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in 1992 defines the child as a person under 18 years of age.

Originally focused on victims of the 1982 Lebanon War and later expanded its purpose to acknowledge the pain suffered by children throughout the world who are the victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse. This day affirms the UN’s commitment to protecting the rights of children.

In 1959, the UN took to the declaration to protect the child with Declaration of the right of children principal 10 stating that, “The child shall be protected from practices which may foster racial, religious and any other form of discrimination. He shall be brought up in a spirit of understanding, tolerance, friendship among peoples, peace and universal brotherhood, and in full consciousness that his energy and talents should be devoted to the service of his fellow men.”

Children suffer as victims when there is war or any kind of violence if not protected mention the Ukraine war almost two out of three children are displaced as refugees. In Congo an average of two children a day are attacked and most succumb to death from being misplaced. In Kenya cases of child abuse continue to rise both with local and government organization intervening.

International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression 2022 is therefore a day for me and you to celebrate our children as we ensure that we are giving the best environment for growth and that there needs are taken care of as guided by the law.

It is also a call to ensure that our neighbor’s children are safe and not being mistreated in any way by offering a ear to there issue.

Let us protect our kids!
