Gov't Set To Begin Fresh Registration Of Inua Jamii Beneficiaries
Persons with disabilities who are not currently beneficiaries of the Inua Jamii programme will be able to register for the programme starting September 1, 2023.
This follows an announcement made on Tuesday after a cabinet meeting chaired by President William Ruto at the Sagana State Lodge where the cabinet authorized fresh registrations for the programme.
“The Cabinet sanctioned a fresh wave of registration of persons under the Inua Jamii Safety Net Programme of senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable households.
“The process of onboarding the new registration of new members will commence on 1st September 2023,” read a statement sent to the media.
The Inua Jamii programme is a government-funded cash transfer programme that provides financial assistance to vulnerable groups in Kenya, including persons with disabilities, orphans and vulnerable children, and elderly Kenyans.
The programme provides beneficiaries with a monthly stipend of Kshs. 8,000.
The new registration process is meant to ensure that every member of the vulnerable groups is cushioned by the government.
According to the current statistics by the state, the Inua Jamii program benefits 1,233,129 Kenyans, among them 47,000 persons with Severe Disabilities, 353,000 Orphans and Vulnerable Children, and 833,129 elderly citizens.
Persons with disabilities who wish to register for the Inua Jamii programme will be able to do so at their nearest social welfare office.
They will need to provide proof of their disability, such as a medical certificate or a letter from a registered doctor. They will also need to provide a copy of their national ID card or other identification documents.
Once their application has been processed, PWDs who are eligible for the Inua Jamii programme will be enrolled and will start receiving monthly stipends.
