Education Stakeholders Raise Concerns On CBC Policies

Across section of education stakeholders have expressed concern over some policies crafted to manage competence Based curriculum (CBC) a head of  schools re-opening.

The stakeholders cited looming challenges in the CBC’s implementation ranging from preparedness, teacher recruitment and curriculum delivery.

They called for intensive guidance and shelving of some policies to pave way for a smooth curriculum transition.

David Ong’au petitioned the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to stop giving conditions on the impending teacher recruitment.

The move he claimed will disadvantage candidates whose age was advancing and those who did not train on the new curriculum.

Elijah Ogoti criticized the Presidential Task Force on the CBC review’s recommendations on domiciling Junior secondary in primary schools.

Junior secondary school teachers will be demeaned by reporting to primary school head teachers, he claimed.

But Jacob Barongo raised pertinent issues the Education ministry should address if the envisaged hurdles were to be tackled.

He mentioned the boarding question,teacher adequacy and stakeholder support  in schools as some of the  constraints even as he some policies formulated by the government.

According Samuel Machogu,grade six children should join secondary schools next to their  former learning institutions to mitigate the issue of lack of enough teachers.

He predicted lack of laboratories, heavy  teacher workload and inadequate teachers  to deliver in some subjects.

Stephen Onsare feared some children might drop out of school for wanting   curriculum management thus posing a security challenge in urban centres.
