DCI And IEBC To Peacefully Co-exist
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission now says its dispute with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has come to an end.
The dispute between the two government agencies emerged after the police arrested 3 Venezuelan nationals at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for being in possession of what they claimed as election materials.
Speaking during a press conference held on Thursday in Nairobi, the two bosses Director George Kinoti and IEBC's Wafula Chebukati pledged to work together to resolve differences away from the public.
The decision followed talks between Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai and IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati on Thursday.
The institutions have vowed to collaborate and work together harmoniously in the dispatch of election materials from point to point as scheduled.
The IG boss defended their decision of releasing the foreigners claiming that they established that the foreigners were constantly communicating with the IEBC and that the material was lawfully assigned to them.
IG Mutyambai further revealed that they had deployed officers at the 46,229 polling stations, 290 constituency tallying centers, 47 county tallying centers, and the national tallying center.
