Court Dismisses Sakaja's Degree Petition

The High court on Tuesday morning dismissed a petition filed to bar Nairobi Senator Sakaja from vying for the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat over his questionable academic qualifications.

According to the court's ruling, Independent Electoral and Boundaries commission (IEBC) has no right to authenticate academic qualifications of aspirants.

Justice Antony Murima, in his judgement said, the petitioner had no enough evidence to support his allegations against the Nairobi gubernatorial seat hopeful, adding that it was his mandate to provide proof.

The petitioner, Dennis Wahome had moved to court to bar Senato Sakaja from appearing on the ballot, arguing that his academic qualifications were questionable.

IEBC tribunal had also dismissed the case noting that it had no power to determine Sakaja's academic qualifications.

During the Nairobi gubernatorial debate, Sakaja maintained that he has a degree from Team University and it had been verified.

He attributed the degree saga to his opponents who are fighting hard for him to be barred from the August 9th race for the Nairobi County.
