President Kenyatta Promises A Smooth Transition Of Power

President Uhuru Kenyatta has promised to hand over power smoothly to the president-elect Dr. William Ruto.

Speaking at the state house on Monday, the incumbent President said he was committed to honoring the Supreme court's decision to uphold the August 9 election.

"Just like I made a commitment  to uphold the rule of law and the decisions made by the Judiciary on all matters pertaining to tour governance,” he stated in a speech.

The head of state further commended Kenyans for maintaining peace during and after the electioneering period.

“I thank every single Kenyan for holding a peaceful election and for this I want to thank God, our political parties and every single individual Kenyan for bringing us thus far," he said.

However, President Kenyatta did not directly congratulate Dp Ruto on his victory but promised to facilitate the remaining process which is in line with the constitution.

"I want to wish well all who have won as they guide our country into the future. I thank you all for the opportunity to serve," Uhuru said.

He called upon Kenyans to respect institutions that are involved in the transition process and to also be on the lookout and question how they carry out their mandate.

The outgoing President had endorsed the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga as his preferred successor.

According to the official results from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Odinga narrowly lost to Ruto who garnered 50.5% of the votes.

The president-elect is set to be sworn in by September 13, 2022, as required by the constitution.
