UDA Claims NPS Was Used By Azimio To Disrupt Rally
The United Democratic Party now claims the chaos at Jacaranda grounds during their rally had been pre-panned by their opponents in the Azimio One Kenya Coalition.
UDA Secretary-General Veronica Maina has written to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission demanding that Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai and Babu Owino be summoned over the incident.
In the letter to the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, the party claims that the Azimio One Kenya coalition used the national police service to disrupt their rally.
The two political coalitions claimed to have booked the venue for their rally, creating tension and confusion.
The Secretary-general also wants to disqualify Owino from contesting in the August 9 polls for allegedly pre-planning violence.
Meanwhile, Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate William Ruto also accused Azimio la Umoja coalition of enrolling rowdy youth to disrupt his meeting.
“Mr. Kitendawili, the lord of violence, has done it again: Hired innocent, desperate & jobless young people,” Ruto said in a Tweet.
Shortly after Ruto’s accusation, Raila made a statement hitting back at Ruto for always looking at an opportunity to cry foul and play the victim.
“Mr. Six months, for how long will you blame everyone for everything that befalls you.” He posted on his Twitter handle.
Chaos marred Jacaranda grounds in Nairobi on Sunday, prompting the police to disperse the rowdy crowd with teargas.
