Quarantine Imposed In Kisii County To Stem Anthrax

The County Government of Kisii has slapped a compulsory quarantine in anthrax-hit parts of Nyamache Sub County to contain an outbreak.

Speaking at Sugubo, Agriculture docket County Executive, Margaret Obara kicked off a massive vaccination exercise covering livestock and pets irrespective of whether the areas were affected or not.

Veterinary/livestock officers have been put on a high alert to avoid cases of residents consuming uninspected meat and feasting on dead cows to avert the disease infection.

Acting Chief Officer, Livestock and Fisheries docket, Dr. Josiah Oroni, cautioned residents not to open up carcasses of animals that succumbed to the disease.

He instead advised them to dispose of them six feet under the ground and in the presence of a veterinary /livestock officer.

Livestock owners were also instructed to avoid violating the quarantine measures by grazing their animals across the Transmara West common border, Narok where they risked contracting the disease.

Four cows had since died from Anthrax while one infected resident underwent medication in the area health facility following the disease’s spike.
