Beatrice Wangari, a suspect linked to the death of Nairobi-based medic Dr Job Obwaka, will remain in custody for 10 days at Kilimani Police Station as investigations into the circumstances of his death continue. The decision was made by a court following an application by detectives handling the case.
The court allowed police to hold Wangari to enable them complete key inquiries, including forensic analysis and witness interviews. Investigators argued that additional time was necessary to piece together the events leading to the doctor’s sudden death.
Dr Obwaka, a medical practitioner based in Nairobi, died under unclear circumstances after reportedly spending time with Wangari at her residence in Kitengela. His death prompted immediate police action and the launch of a homicide investigation.
According to preliminary police reports, Wangari is considered a person of interest after she was identified as one of the last individuals seen with the deceased before he developed complications. Detectives are working to reconstruct his final movements.
Investigators have since collected several items from the suspect’s residence, including household items and possible exhibits that are undergoing forensic and toxicological analysis. These are expected to help determine whether any substances contributed to the doctor’s condition.
A postmortem examination on the body of Dr Obwaka is also being conducted, with authorities saying the results will be crucial in establishing the exact cause of death. The findings are expected to guide the direction of the case.
Police have confirmed that the doctor was rushed to hospital after falling ill but was pronounced dead on arrival. His sudden deterioration raised suspicion, leading to the involvement of homicide detectives.
Prosecutors supported the detention of Wangari, arguing that holding her in custody was necessary to preserve evidence and prevent interference with ongoing investigations. They also cited the sensitivity of the case.
The court ordered that she be held at Kilimani Police Station while detectives finalise their investigations. The matter is scheduled to be mentioned again on May 18, 2026.
Investigators are examining multiple possible angles, including medical, toxicological, and circumstantial factors that may have contributed to the doctor’s death. No official conclusion has yet been reached.
Police have interviewed several individuals connected to both the suspect and the deceased in an effort to establish a timeline of events. They say more statements may be recorded as the probe progresses.
The case has drawn significant public attention due to the professional standing of Dr Obwaka and the mysterious nature of his death. Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation as investigations continue.
As the inquiry advances, the family of the deceased is awaiting definitive answers from forensic and postmortem reports, which are expected to determine whether foul play was involved or if other causes led to his death.
