Enock Kipkemboi has been confirmed as the winner of the men’s 42km race at the 5th edition of the Nairobi City Marathon held on Sunday, June 7, 2026. He delivered a commanding performance in a tightly contested elite field, crossing the finish line in 2:09:32 to secure victory in one of Kenya’s most competitive road races of the season.

The men’s race produced a dramatic finish with minimal time gaps separating the leading pack. Robert Kwambai took second place in 2:09:51, closely followed by Shadrack Kenduiywo in 2:09:55, reflecting the intense pace maintained throughout the course and the depth of elite marathon talent assembled for the event.

In the women’s 42km category, Joy Kemuma emerged as the champion after clocking 2:27:43, securing a decisive win in a strong field of national and regional competitors. Her performance marked a significant return to top form, as she controlled key sections of the race before pulling away in the final stages.

Jacinta Chepkoech finished second in the women’s race with a time of 2:30:48, while Nancy Jepleting completed the podium in 2:31:07. The results confirmed a dominant Kenyan sweep of the top positions in both the men’s and women’s categories.

Organisers reported strong participation in the 2026 edition, with thousands of runners competing across different categories, reinforcing the marathon’s growing status as a major fixture on the regional athletics calendar.

The route featured key Nairobi landmarks, including sections along the Nairobi Expressway, with the race starting and finishing at Uhuru Park. The course combined urban stretches with high-altitude conditions that tested endurance and pacing strategy among elite athletes.

Prize allocations for the elite winners were reported at approximately KSh 3.5 million each for the men’s and women’s champions, highlighting the increasing commercial appeal and competitiveness of the event.

Athletics officials described the 2026 edition as one of the most competitive so far, citing closely matched finish times and strong international participation that elevated the overall standard of competition.

Observers noted that Kipkemboi’s winning time of 2:09:32 reflects consistent elite-level performance within Kenya’s deep marathon circuit, where marginal differences often decide podium positions.

The Nairobi City Marathon 2026 has further strengthened its reputation as one of Africa’s premier urban road races, continuing to attract elite athletes and large-scale participation from across the region and beyond.
