The National Funds for the Disabled of Kenya (NFDK) has constructed two classroom blocks to aid the learning of children with disabilities in Migori County.

NFDK Board of Trustees member Prof. Julia Ojiambo while commissioning the block at Migori Primary School, Suna West Sub County said that they managed to build two classrooms and one workshop at a cost of Sh3 million to give local children with disabilities hope for education.

NFDK is a government endowment fund, aimed at promoting the empowerment of persons with disabilities through donations to individuals and institutions.

Prof. Ojiambo disclosed that they will continue to fund the construction of physical facilities such as classrooms, dormitories, a physiotherapy department, and even kitchens for children with disabilities in the country.

She underscored the importance of education inclusivity for all children in Kenya, which requires the provision of a favorable learning environment for all children.

“We are much committed to ensuring that we facilitate the provision of funds to build facilities such as classes and workshops so that we can ensure inclusive education for learners without any hindrance,” she affirmed.

Migori County Chief Officer for Education, Gender Youth and Social Services Prof. Rose Odhiambo explained that they have been working together with other stakeholders to ensure that every child gets the right to access education.

Prof. Odhiambo acknowledged that the county has been keeping track of the education of children with disabilities in the county in order to fill any existing gaps.

She applauded the efforts being done by the NFDK in giving hope to learners with disabilities urging the NGOs to join in the noble course so as not to leave any child behind.

The Chief Officer also mentioned that students with disabilities who will not be able to go directly to the Technical and Vocational Education and Training(TVET)will utilize the newly constructed workshops to supplement their professional training.

The head teacher of Migori primary school Moses Maranda disclosed that already the Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC) had brought in a new headteacher to head the newly constructed special school for persons with disabilities with additional teachers to support learning activities in the centre.
