King Charles III and Queen Camilla will begin their four-day state visit to Kenya on Tuesday 31st October.

This will be the King and Queen’s first official visit to Kenya since they took the throne, and it comes as the country celebrates its 60th anniversary of independence from Britain.

The visit is expected to focus on strengthening ties between Kenya and the UK, as well as promoting sustainable development and climate action.

The king’s visit is also an acknowledgment of the UK and Kenya’s shared history, including the period of British colonization.

Kenya also has a unique connection to the British royal family, as it is the country where Queen Elizabeth II learned of the death of her father, King George VI, and ascended to the throne.

The then-princess was making an official visit to Kenya with her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, and was staying at Treetops, a lodge deep in Aberdare National Park, when the King died on February 6, 1952.

During their visit, the King and Queen will meet President William Ruto and First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto, as well as other government officials, UN staff, business leaders, faith leaders, young people, and future leaders.

Meanwhile, Kenyan Human Rights Commission (KHRC) is calling on the British government to apologize and compensate the victims of colonialism in Kenya.

According to the KHRC, Britain violated many human rights between 1895 and 1963, including land grabbing.
