Tyla, a rising star from South Africa, took home the first-ever GRAMMY Award for Best African Music Performance for her hit song “Water”.

Facing tough competition from established Afrobeats giants like Burna Boy and Davido, Tyla’s “Water” captivated voters with its infectious amapiano-pop blend.

The song not only became her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 but also peaked at No. 7, making her the highest-charting African female solo musician in Billboard history.

Additionally, it topped the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs and Hip-Hop/R&B charts, solidifying its widespread appeal.

Expressing disbelief and immense joy upon receiving the award, Tyla’s emotional speech highlighted the impact of this win: “What the heck?! This is crazy, I never thought I’d say I won a GRAMMY at 22 years old.”
