Isiolo County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding has said that the government has set aside Sh250 million to provide soft loans to youth, women, and people with disabilities in order to help them avoid crime.

Omoding made the announcement in response to the killing of a police officer and the injuring of three other security officers on Monday.

He said that the government is committed to addressing insecurity and illegal businesses in Isiolo County and that the loans will help vulnerable groups to start businesses and become self-reliant.

Omoding also said that the government is using drones to monitor the movement of criminals in the county. He warned cartels involved in criminal activities to prepare for a “ruthless duel” with the authorities.

He advised persons with disabilities to form groups and take loans from government institutions to start businesses, rather than engaging in crime.

According to Isiolo County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding, the government’s operation to deal with drug and human trafficking in the county has been successful. He said that the crime rate has reduced drastically as a result of the operation.

He added that the government would use drones to monitor the criminals’ movement.

The County boss said the crime had ruined young families and the youth where many of their breadwinners accosted in the criminal activities are arrested and ended up in jail, leaving their dependents in distress.

He said that nothing would stop the government from addressing insecurity and illegal business menace in Isiolo County and if necessary, they would use force to stop them.

Omoding revealed that investigations into the killing of a police officer were at an advanced stage and warned cartels behind the crimes to prepare themselves for a ruthless duel.

The administrator said that the government has fulfilled its promise of putting up a permanent security camp in the Mlango area, Burat Ward where innocent people lost lives and property with the Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki expected to launch it on Friday, September 15, 2023.
