As Eldoret town prepares for city status, the Eldoret Municipality board has called on all landlords and tenants to ensure their buildings are accessible to people with disabilities, the aged, and children.

The board has also issued an enforcement notice requiring all buildings to be painted with plain colors and for all signage and advertisements to be in accordance with the law.

“Part of that notice was to ensure that buildings are painted with colours which are not associated with any known commercial brand, those protected like banks and other corporate entities should seek authorization from the authority.

We need all the buildings painted plain. All the signage and advertisements are supposed to be in the right place and in accordance with the laws that guide advertisements and the management of buildings in our towns,’ he said.

The municipality manager, Tito Koiyet, warned that action will be taken against those who fail to comply with the enforcement notice. He also urged the public to change their attitude towards solid waste disposal and to use the designated litter bins.

The municipality board chairman, Julius Kitur, reiterated the need for residents to maintain the cleanliness of the town by disposing of solid waste in the designated litter bins. He warned that anyone caught throwing litter on the street will be arrested.

“We have the law that allows us to arrest anybody who is going to throw even a leaf on the street, even a banana peeling, we are going to act on that strictly to ensure that our town is clean,” he warned.
