A total of 10,000 people have been registered under the ongoing Inua Jamii registration programme in Elgeyo Marakwet County, including persons with disabilities.

The County Director of Children Services, Mr. Elias Kurgat, said that the county was expecting to register 16,000 people before the end of the exercise on Friday this week.

Kurgat called on residents who have not yet registered to take advantage of the remaining time and report to the nearest chief’s office.

He said that those who are eligible for registration include the elderly aged 70 years and above who are not receiving any pension from the government, persons with disabilities, especially those with severe disabilities, and orphans who have lost one or both parents.

Kurgat said that all that is required for registration is a national identification card for the beneficiary and the caregiver. He said that there is no cost involved in the exercise and that anyone caught demanding a bribe will face the full force of the law.
