US Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost Elected as the New Pope

American Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, 69, of Chicago, Illinois, has made history as the first Pope from the United States. He was elected as the 267th pontiff and has taken the name Pope Leo XIV.
He was confirmed by senior cardinal Dominique Mamberti, who appeared on the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica before a waiting crowd.
In his initial address, Pope Leo XIV paid heartfelt tribute to the late Pope Francis, urging the faithful to honor his predecessor's legacy before hinting at his own vision for the future of the Catholic Church.
The election of Cardinal Prevost marks a significant moment for the Catholic Church and for the United States.
Pope Leo was chosen just two days after a group of 133 Cardinals gathered in conclave to select a new pontiff.
