UN Warns of Looming Food Crisis in The Country
The United Nations has issued a warning about a potential food crisis in Kenya, highlighting the country as one of 22 nations facing a significant surge in acute food insecurity.
According to a recent Hunger Hotspots report from the organization, an immediate humanitarian intervention is required to avert widespread starvation and death.
The report forecasts a severe deterioration in food security conditions between November 2024 and May 2025 in these hotspots.
This alarming projection is based on early warning signals from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP), which have identified critical vulnerabilities in these regions.
The UN is urging the international community to provide urgent financial and logistical support to scale up humanitarian assistance and address the root causes of food insecurity, such as climate change, conflict, and economic shocks.
Other countries confirmed as hunger hotspots include Lesotho, Namibia, Niger Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Malawi, Somalia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
