Teachers Honored And Celebrated On World Teachers' Day
The Kenya School of Government (KSG) celebrated World Teachers' Day with a special event that recognized and honored the contributions of teachers in society.
The event was attended by teachers from all over the country, as well as government officials and other dignitaries.
This year's World Teachers' Day celebration at KSG was a joyous occasion, with teachers singing, dancing, and sharing stories of their experiences.
In her speech, the Teachers Service Commission Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia praised teachers for their dedication and hard work.
She said teachers have done exceedingly well in delivering quality education to learners which plays a vital role in shaping the future of Kenya.
The Secretary General of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), Akello Misori, and her counterpart from the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), Collins Oyuu, have said that it is important for the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to provide better terms of service to teachers, especially in light of the changes being implemented in the education sector in Kenya.
They called on the TSC to address the issue of teacher shortages, which they said is a major challenge facing the education sector.
Misori and Oyuu said that the changes being implemented in the education sector, such as the introduction of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), will require teachers to have the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively teach the new curriculum.
They said that the TSC should provide teachers with the training and support they need to succeed in the new education system.
This year's celebration is themed "The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want: the global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage."
