Security has been beefed up in Kisii county,  following the swearing-in ceremony of the governor-elect and his running mate where six to eight thousand people are expected to attend.

The countrywide event on the assumption of office of the governor was scheduled for August 25, 2022, according to the Kenya gazette.

Kisii Central Police Commander, Amos Otieno Ambasa disclosed attendees will be subjected to thorough frisking to avert sneaking-in of weapons into the town-based Gusii Stadium, the venue of the event.

The security measures to put in place, he explained, will ensure the official function proceeded and was concluded smoothly.

This comes as past political meetings at the stadium had been marred with chaos, one of them being an alleged inadvertent detonating of a tear gas canister at the podium.

County ODM chairman, Kerosi Ondieki whose party was a co-host of the event, unveiled the day’s program to kick off at 10 am.

He advised the residents to be seated by 8 am to witness the arrival of a judge and important guests for the day.

He described the assumption of the office of the governor by Simba Arati and his running mate Dr. Robert Monda as significant owing to its transitional attachment.
