Schools To Reopen Monday, May 13
All schools will reopen on Monday, May 13, this is according to President William Ruto.
The Head of State's announcement follows better weather predictions showing less rain as compared to previous days which led to the delay in schools reopening.
The schools were initially set for reopening on April 29.
Speaking at the state house Wednesday after hosting grassroots leaders from Laikipia North and Kajiado Central, President Ruto said money for the reconstruction of school infrastructure damaged by heavy rains be made available through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
At the same time, the President declared May 10 a public holiday in memory of 238 people who have died in floods.
According to the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, 75 people are still missing, 174 people injured, and 47,000 families or 235,000 people displaced.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki on Tuesday announced that 167 camps had been set up in 22 counties, housing 70,451 people.
