Rhonex Kipruto smashes the world 10km record in Valencia clocking 26:24

Yesterday, Kenya’s 20-year-old Rhonex Kipruto yesterday smashed the world 10km record in Valencia, Spain, the bronze medallist, headed the Valencia 10km field in 26:24after breaking the of ficial 5km world best en route with  

13:18. Julien Wanders improves the European record with 27:14 while Great Britain's Callum Hawkins runs a big Personal Best of what looked to be 28 min flat.

Hawkins, who has been pre-selected for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in the marathon, finished in 28 minutes to knock 11 seconds off Allister Hutton's mark, which had stood since 1984.

It was enough to give the 27-year-old a 10th-place finish overall.

Benard Kimeli was second in 27:12, while Switzerland's Julien Wanders improved his own European record with a time of 27:13 for third.
