Residents of  Nyamarambe in South Mugirango have protested against the closure of the Nduru sub-county hospital, five days after the withdrawal of health workers following an attack on them by unknown people.

The residents claimed they were forced to travel long distances to seek medical services which used to be provided by the closed health facility.

Led by Charles Osoro the residents claimed they were not consulted on the hospital’s closure and that the healthcare staff should report for duty immediately.

He condemned the transfer of any medical equipment to other hospitals and warned against the issue being politicized.

John Onkundi, another demonstrator, called for the unconditional re-opening of the health facility.

But Johnson Morara claimed the health facility should resume normal services since the residents will protect the medical staff.

Respective trade unions in the health sector had advised their members to withdraw the services at the hospital until their safety and security were assured by the government.

A mob had invaded the hospital on April 11 2023  to resist the transfer of an idle medical machine to another hospital during a stock-taking exercise by the county government assaulting the staff in the process.
