Murang’a governor Irungu Kang’ata in collaboration with the catholic diocese of Murang’a donated wheelchairs and other mobility assistive devices to persons with disabilities in Murang'a County during the launch of a Health Management Information System which is set to help improve the delivery of medical services at Murang’a level five hospital.

Speaking during the launch, governor Kang'ata said the system will record and store health data so that it can be retrieved and processed to improve decision-making and service delivery.

Further, the governor said the automation of health services at the hospital, will see patients registered electronically and their treatment records stored electronically.

“Murang’a county government is committed to service delivery. We are the first county-level five hospitals to have this automated system in the republic of Kenya,” he said,

According to news reports by Kenya News Agency, Kang’ata explained that the system will ease access to medical services in the hospital as patients will not be required to carry their records forms from one station to another.

The system will allow patients to receive the details of their treatment course on their phones - the details can be retrieved anytime and anywhere; in case patients need to seek health support services from other facilities.

The system will also aid in treatment as the doctors will easily access the medical history of repeat patients and treat them accordingly.

Different drugs will be restocked and consumption monitored with the help of the system will also help monitor the consumption of various drugs and help in restocking those drugs as demanded.

Kang'ata intends to introduce the system in all hospitals across the county starting with the level four hospitals.

The governor also launched CCTV cameras in the hospital to help with monitoring service delivery and also deter loss of public funds caused by stealing of drugs from the hospital, something he deemed a major challenge.
